The IET, the producers of the IET Code of Practice - effectively the bible for PAT technicians, are now producing a new Code of Practice for Electrical Safety Management.

They say that the publication, due out this summer, is to address the fact that there are currently a number of publications on electrical safety but there isn’t one source on the good management of electrical safety in organisations.

The plan for the new publication is that it will give a high level of understanding of what managing electrical safety means and will include practical processes on self assessment.

The publication is aimed at individuals and organisations and is a guide to help them manage the risks associated with electrics. Basically it’s a guide for non electricians to help them deal with their responsibilities regarding electrical systems and appliances.

The Chairman of the IET Standards Committee said:

“This new Code of Practice is eminently suitable for large and small firms and will be very useful for hard-pressed managers who do not have time to research what to do...”

The IET are saying that the book will benefit a range of people who are responsible for the management of electrical systems and aims to help managers, and those responsible, deal with their legal duties effectively through using this publication as a guide.

Presumably, the guide will be written in such a way as to be understandable to non electrical individuals and will be an interesting and useful book for businesses to own.

For further information on the book and its contents visit the IET website for details.
