On a business trip to London this week, we discovered something shocking in the heart of London at Heathrow’s Novotel.

Unfortunately for this hotel, they made the mistake of putting our industry experienced expert, MD and company founder in a room with a faulty appliance.

Faulty IronAs you can see from the image, the iron is missing a few of the covers leaving parts exposed which should not be, making it unlikely to pass a visual PAT inspection.

It is common knowledge, even amongst those not in the electrical industry that water and electricity do not mix. So to find an appliance in a hotel room where unsuspecting guests are being put at risk through the use such an appliance is shocking at best and downright dangerous and at worst.

It remains unknown whether this hotel has had their appliances tested recently but I wouldn’t say that they have maintained this particular appliance in accordance with the law.

This is worrying as it begs the question, is this happening across the board in many different businesses or is this incident is simply an unlucky one off?

We reported recently in our post titled “People Say: Electricity Not Dangerous” that the dangers of electricity is not taken seriously enough by the public and those outside the electrical industry. Now however, with this discovery, we are beginning to wonder just how widespread this problem actually is.

Ultimately those outside the industry must be made aware of the dangers of electricity and businesses must be diligent in the maintenance and testing of their appliances.

In the meantime, if there are any PAT testers working or living near the Novotel in Heathrow, maybe you should contact them and offer your PAT testing services.
