All over the news this week is the dangers some people have faced due to faulty Bosch dishwashers. A report on the Six o’clock news last night told the tale of a couple who had contacted Bosch about the fault and Bosch had told them that they would arrange a repair of the product. However, in the meantime the dishwasher overheated and caught fire causing massive damage to the couple’s home.

Bosch themselves said that the faulty dishwashers were made over a seven year period and all of these from this period are at risk of catching fire. They have also reported that currently they have only managed to trace one in four of these appliances.

There have been a number of such incidents involving appliances which have been recalled in recent years where the appliance owners either didn’t know about the recall or chose to ignore it.

Those who campaign for clearer systems have said that that the problem is intensified due to problems with the system of alerting the public when such recalls are announced, as there is currently no official source for information on recalls.

Currently, Bosch is estimating that there are problems with 632,000 dishwasher models sold in the UK between 1999 and 2005 and there are 479,000 dishwashers which are currently unaccounted for.

Even though there have been a number of fires caused by the fault, some of which were deemed to be serious, Bosch are dismissing concerns about safety hazards.

In recent years there appears to have been a great number of faulty electrical appliances on the market and a great number which manufacturers have inevitably had difficulty tracing.

What’s concerning is that many people are unaware of the faults and carry on using appliances without knowledge of the dangers the electrical appliance could pose to their safety, their homes and their businesses.

What are your thoughts on the number of product recalls in recent years and how the information is distributed to the public?
