The Health and Safety Executive, (HSE) have highlighted their ‘toolbox’ information on electrical safety.

Directed at businesses, the information attempts to get people thinking of the risks of working near electricity and the importance of taking precautions.

Included is a case study which tells of an electrocution taking place within a work place environment and how preventative measures can be implemented to avoid such incidents.

The information also highlights the recent changes to the IET Code of Practice and the importance of carrying out risk assessments for each electrical item.

The simple-to-understand format is well laid out and easy for non-electric individuals to navigate with question headings and useful information.

Although the way PAT testing is carried out has changed recently, it doesn’t mean that PAT can’t still be a useful part of any electrical career. It is simply a case of adapting to the changes and encouraging business owners to take in information regarding these changes and to act on these new requirements.

It is well worth encouraging business owners to take a look at HSE’s toolbox information page. To see what’s included visit the toolbox page for further details.
