We reported recently how the public perception of electrical danger was far removed from the reality in our blog report “People Say: Electricity Not Dangerous”.

The ESC has also been worried about this and has now developed a consumer App for non-electrical people.

As a simple guide it allows people to perform simple visual checks and highlights potential dangers in each room of a property. This will allow people and landlords a better understanding of potential electrical dangers and will encourage them to take electricity more seriously.

The app’s main aim is to ensure that the public perception of electrical danger matches the reality, thus reducing electrical accidents due to ignorance.

Also, with a simple and freely available app from the Apple app store and the Android market, it may encourage users to take their PAT testing responsibilities in their business and rented properties more seriously too.

It would be a good idea for all PAT technicians to encourage their clients to download the App and be aware of problems which may arise at any point, that way we can help reduce electrical accidents and encourage safety for all.
