The Electrical Safety Council (ESC) recently ran a workshop on electrical fire safety in Wales which was attended by the Welsh Fire and Rescue Services.

With representatives from all three fire services in Wales and other organisations including the British Red Cross, Care and Repair Agencies and Age UK, the event enjoyed a diverse selection of attendees.

The workshop aimed to increase understanding of electrical fire safety issues and how messages of electrical fire safety prevention can be distributed to the wider community.

One workshop focused on ways a badly maintained electrical installation or a faulty electrical appliance can cause fires in homes and how the risk of such fires can be increased by carelessness and ignorance. Included in this workshop was advice on how fire and rescue services can look for signs of problems when carrying out fire safety checks.

Those who attended the event reported that they had a greater understanding of electrical safety and many said they would review their current guidelines for householders regarding electrical safety and would now increase their messages on electrical safety in line with ESC’s advice.

What’s your opinion of what ESC are trying to achieve, do you agree and will it work?
